‘Reckless’: President Joe Biden blasts Donald Trump for calling guilty trial verdict ‘rigged’
President Joe Biden condemned Donald Trump’s attack on the guilty verdict in his New York hush money trial, labeling it as “reckless,” “dangerous,” and “irresponsible.”
During a briefing at the White House, Biden emphasized the importance of respecting the justice system and criticized attempts to undermine it. He reiterated the need to uphold the integrity of the legal process, regardless of personal preferences or opinions on the verdict.
Trump, following his conviction, delivered a speech at Trump Tower where he criticized Judge Juan Merchan, trial witnesses, and the outcome of the trial itself. Trump baselessly accused the Biden administration of orchestrating the prosecution to hinder his potential candidacy in the upcoming election.
Describing the trial as “rigged” and himself as a “political prisoner” in a fundraising email, Trump’s assertions were met with criticism from Biden’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, who referred to Biden as “evil” in a social media post.
Despite Trump’s claims, Biden emphasized that Trump had the opportunity to defend himself in court, and the guilty verdict was reached by a jury of 12 American citizens who carefully evaluated the evidence presented over five weeks. Biden acknowledged Trump’s right to appeal the decision, highlighting the fundamental principles of the American justice system.
