Earthquake reported in Corona, California area Wednesday afternoon measuring 4.1
A tremor rattled Southern California early Wednesday afternoon, marking a shaky start to May.
The earthquake reportedly struck Corona in northwestern Riverside County at 1:49 p.m. local time.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake, recorded at a depth of just under 1 mile, measured a magnitude of 4.1.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to buildings.
Fire officials advise preparing for potential aftershocks. The Los Angeles Fire Department initially reported the earthquake as having a preliminary magnitude of 4.3, slightly higher than the USGS’s measurement.
In response, firefighters are conducting inspections of critical infrastructure and local areas to ensure no significant damage occurred.
“While no further earthquake activity is anticipated, it’s wise to be prepared for aftershocks,” the department stated in an alert.
The Corona Fire Department confirmed no reports of damage or emergency calls related to the earthquake. Fire stations have taken precautionary measures, and crews have surveyed their areas without finding any damage.
As is customary in Southern California, residents took to social media platforms to discuss the earthquake and share memes. Even In-N-Out Burger joined the conversation, suggesting that the tremor was a cue to enjoy lunch at one of their locations.
